About the project

The Climate and Health Evidence Bank is hosted by the Pathfinder Initiative, an international partnership of scientific experts, policymakers, international organisations and individuals, led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and funded by the Wellcome Trust with support from the Oak Foundation. Scientific oversight for The Pathfinder Initiative is provided by The Lancet Pathfinder Commission which published its report on pathways to a healthy net-zero future in 2023.

The Pathfinder Initiative aims to accelerate the transition to net-zero healthy societies through providing practical, evidence-based pathways to zero carbon. As part of the project, researchers carried out a comprehensive review of existing literature on the health co-benefits of climate action and gathered case studies from around the world of implemented solutions with measured greenhouse gas emissions reductions and health benefits.

The Climate and Health Evidence Bank was established to showcase these solutions and provide the best available scientific evidence to support the delivery of transformative actions for climate and health at global, regional, national and local levels.

Our research showed that most of the existing evidence on the health co-benefits of climate actions comes from modelling studies. We are continuing to gather case studies of real-world examples like the ones showcased here, and encourage countries, cities, organisations and individuals to submit your evidence to contribute to the evidence bank.
