Following a three-day summit at the Vatican, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences has published a book From Climate Crisis to Climate Resilience, featuring a chapter on findings from the Pathfinder Initiative.
In May 2024, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences hosted a joint summit at the Vatican built on three key pillars: mitigation to reduce climate risks; adaptation to manage unavoidable risks; and societal transformation.
The summit brought together Mayors, Governors, and leading experts from around the world to share knowledge and practical experiences, and explore strategies to build climate resilience and accelerate the transition to net zero.
Professor Andy Haines, Co-Chair of the Pathfinder Initiative, made a speech at the summit, highlighting findings from the Lancet Pathfinder Commission Report on pathways to a healthy net-zero future. Insights from the speech, Commission report and wider Pathfinder Initiative are summarised in a chapter of a new book published by the summit organisers.
