A new documentary explores opportunities for climate and health action in Africa and highlights community-led solutions that are already making a difference.
Climate change is impacting health across Africa through extreme heat, floods, drought, food and water insecurity, and increased risk of infectious diseases. At the same time, the continent has major opportunities to adopt low-carbon, climate-resilient, and health-promoting pathways.
Clean energy transitions, sustainable food systems, better air quality, and access to nature can provide immediate health benefits while advancing development goals, presenting win-win solutions for countries and communities.
This documentary explores how climate action can help create healthier, more sustainable and resilient futures in Africa, featuring insights from Pathfinder Initiative experts at the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), as well as participants in a recent Pathfinder Initiative capacity strengthening workshop in Nairobi.
The film also highlights initiatives that are already driving change at the community level. Experts from City Shamba, an urban farm and agricultural resource and information centre based at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi, and Koch FM, a radio station in the Korogocho informal settlement, explain how their work is addressing climate challenges while empowering communities and bringing immediate local benefits.
