In low-income countries, replacing solid fuels with clean sources of energy can bring major health benefits from reduced household and ambient air pollution.

In the Pathfinder review, clean cookstoves had the greatest health benefits compared to actions across all sectors. On average, actions resulted in more than 600 years of life gained per 100,000 people per year. The impact on greenhouse gas emissions for these actions tended to be low but scaled up to large populations in countries such as India (where all the included studies took place), the climate benefit could still be substantial.
